2023 Season Recap
The Braun Station Barracuda swim team wrapped up its 6-week season at the end of June. The team won 3 of its 4 dual meets and took 2nd place at the NISD Summer League Championship. More than 160 swimmers, our coaches, junior coaches, and dozens of parents contributed to the successful season.
All the swimmers improved their swimming skills and speed, and more importantly they strengthened their self-confidence, practiced good sportsmanship, and had fun exercising together, and developing friendships.
This season marked the overlap in the leadership of our longtime and beloved coach Christina Via “Coach V” to Coach Madelyn Rayburg, the O’Connor water polo coach, and Assistant Coach Taylor Simmons, a former Barracuda and former Marshall swimmer. Coach Rayburg and Coach Taylor are looking forward to carrying on the 40-year tradition of the team and adding their unique hallmarks too.
Also, this season, the swimmers also completed their first swim-a-thon and raised more than $1,800 for equipment upgrades and thank you bonuses for our high school coaches who are crucial to helping the younger kids in the water.
Finally, this year, spurred by the HOA’s clubhouse renovations, we digitized all our team photos. You can view them on the team website under the Our History page. We were able to find prints going back to 2001 with a few gaps, and we could use your help filling in the missing years! If you have old Braun Station swim team group photos from 2008, 2006, 2005, 2003 or prior to 2001, we like to scan and return them to you. Please reach out to us with the Contact Us form on our website.
We’d love to have your family involved on the team next year! In-person and online registration will open in mid-April.
